Description:
The tour begins by visiting Turi, a scenic viewpoint that in the Quichua language means view. In fact, it is the main viewpoint of the city. Here we will also visit one of the most famous ceramists in the country at the Eduardo Vega Gallery.
Next, we will walk by the “Barranco”, an area of terraced houses located next to the Tomebamba River. After about 15 minutes we will head to the Pumapungo Museum, considered to be the most important museum in town. Later we will visit a Panama hat factory to observe the fabrication of hats from a fiber called “Paja toquilla.” These hats range from simple inexpensive ones to colorful, elegantly designed and costly ones.
The driver will drop us downtown for lunch and afterward we will take a walk to see: San Francisco market, the flower market, Abdon Calderon Park, the cathedral “El Sagrario”, known as the “Old Cathedral”, and lastly, we will tour the “New Cathedral” which is considered one of the biggest churches in Latin America. The famous gold leaf altar is found here.
