We continue our journey through Ecuador's highlands to the breathtaking Quilotoa Crater Lake. This turquoise gem, nestled in the western Andes, offers panoramic views and a glimpse into the region's volcanic past. Along the way, immerse yourself in the local culture by visiting an indigenous family and exploring their vibrant traditions. At Quilotoa, you’ll have the chance to descend to the lagoon’s edge, where the emerald waters shimmer with volcanic beauty, perfect for a peaceful walk or simply to take in the surreal surroundings. The return we can hike uphill, or mules are available for rent directly from local families, giving you a comfortable alternative while supporting the community. We’ll then make a stop at the dramatic Toachi Canyon for scenic photos and visit the workshop of Alfredo Toaquiza, one of Ecuador’s most celebrated indigenous painters. Witness his colorful Tigua art that reflects daily Andean life and ancestral traditions—an inspiring cultural finale to your day.

On other days, we’ll hike the same scenic route and enjoy equally spectacular vistas.
In the afternoon, we visit the Ingapirca Ruins, Ecuador’s most important archaeological site. Walk among finely carved stone walls and ceremonial structures as you learn about the spiritual and cultural traditions of the Inca and Cañari peoples. Please note: the ruins are closed Mondays and Tuesdays, but you’ll still enjoy panoramic views and historical insights from just outside the complex.
