Sample day in Sacha Lodge

After booking your trip, we will book your flight from Quito to Coca. At Quito airport, the Sacha Lodge team members will assist you and guide you all the way to the Lodge.

Upon arrival around lunchtime, you will meet your guide and you will take your first excursion into the forest. On your return, you'll have dinner, and you will set out for your first nighttime adventure: canoeing among caimans on the lake or snake spotting in the jungle.

At Sacha, a typical day begins at sunrise or earlier, to make the most of the cooler morning hours when rainforest creatures are most active. Every group sets a wake-up time and breakfast service starts just half an hour afterward.

You can choose to start your day by canoe paddling through the tannin-rich black-water creeks and lakes, surrounded by lush vegetation like lianas, bromeliads, orchids, and palm trees. Keep an eye out for native wildlife, from pygmy marmoset to the elusive ocelot or even puma. Then, you could hop on a motorized canoe for a short ride along the Napo River, where you'll visit the Providencia Community in Yasuni National Park. Here, you'll learn about their jungle lifestyle, experience their cooking methods, and even witness the spectacular parrot clay lick along the route.

You will be back at the Lodge by noon, giving you some time to rest and enjoy the lodge facilities, relax on sun chairs with a book on the Balsa, or a refreshing dip in the Lake Pool. Lunch will be served at 1 p.m.

Activities start again between 3:00 and 4:30 p.m. often extending into the evening when the nocturnal insect and frog chorus begins. You could embark on an exploration of the pristine Terra Firme forest, where a colossal 150-foot kapok tree tower dominates the skyline. Your expert guide will point out the territory of the crested owl and he could even mimic the howler monkey calls. You will then have the opportunity to ascend 94 feet (30 meters) up to the canopy walk to explore the treetops and spot dozens of birds and wildlife that call this place home.

At Sacha Lodge, days extend beyond sunset and dinner. Night adventures such as walks and canoe trips with the aid of flashing lights offer glimpses of rarely observed creatures in the jungle like giant insects or caimans. Do you dare search for them?

*Please note that activities are subject to weather conditions. However, the Kapok Tower, Forest exploration, and Canopy Walk are the keystones of the Sacha experience.
