Ingapirca Ruins & Devils Nose
We begin with a hotel or Airbnb pick-up before setting off on a scenic drive to the Ingapirca Ruins, where the landscapes of Ecuador’s Southern Andes provide a stunning backdrop. Here, explore the country’s most important Inca–Cañari archaeological complex, including the impressive Temple of the Sun, along with courtyards, terraces, and surrounding structures that reveal centuries of history. From there, we continue north to admire the dramatic Devil’s Nose area. If the railway is operating, we can arrange tickets for you to experience what is considered the most challenging train route ever built. Along the way, we’ll pause at Colta, the site of Ecuador’s first Spanish-founded settlement, and visit La Balbanera, the nation’s oldest Catholic church—a remarkable cultural and historical treasure.

If you’d like, add an optional canoe ride along the calm river, which offers a peaceful way to glide down the river, with the chance to spot monkeys or colorful birds in their natural habitat. A short hike then takes us to Inchinduris viewpoint, where the Amazon and the winding Pastaza River stretch out before you in breathtaking views. Lunch includes the traditional dish of allampaco—fresh tilapia wrapped in bijao leaves and slow-cooked for authentic flavor (vegetarian options available). In the afternoon, cool off with a walk to the Hola Vida waterfall, a jungle gem surrounded by lush greenery. End the day with a sweet experience, seeing how cacao beans are transformed into chocolate and savoring a warm, rich cup at the source.
